The festival fulfilled its initial goal of bringing speakers and industry professionals to the Baton Rouge area. To build on this success, BRADIC’s partners decided to create an office whose sole purpose was to promote the Baton Rouge area to digital media companies. It is critical that the office communicate in the language of the industry, to show decision-makers that Baton Rouge and its leadership understand their needs and are able to address industry concerns. The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) is a non-profit, investor-driven organization with over 1,500 member businesses, civic organizations, education institutions, and individuals. Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product.
